I have once again arranged to go away for the weekend and by Thursday night completely forgotten to pack. When I need to get up early for a lift again tomorrow morning. Sigh. At least I have a few CDs worth of the Smiths to get me through this stressful time. And a vague rememberance of what was useful and not-useful last weekend. Ah, the Smiths.
Also I need to fill in and send off my Green Wing convention acceptance sheet. And write my "Christmas list" so my parents have some idea what to get me. Given that it's December in two weeks. Eek.
So yes, by the way, I will probably be offline until Monday, maybe by Sunday night. I hope to see a good play, my friends, and possibly Casino Royale by the time I get back. Hurrah.
It would be sort of helpful if LJ posted paragraphs as they were written, on posts like this, effectively combining possible interaction and composition time.
Anyway. I also watched the last three episodes of American Gothic. Well, it was both the finale I was and wasn't expecting. Caleb? Is a scary boy. Lucas Black? Is a scarily good child actor. These are most of my thoughts on the matter. The thing with the doll was just ::shudders::. And the bit where he says 'like you were with Lucas?' to Gail. Damn, boy.
They ruined Selena. I pretend that she had brain damage from the fever in Triangle. Though she and Caleb did make a pretty fine team. I found Gail really quite entertaining for once, being made mad, more mad, less mad, and finally, unconscious. I love that her evil child had a BRAIN FOR A FACE. That was amazing. Then they just stole from Rosemary's Baby and made her into the slightly mindless drone I always sort of suspected she was. That is slightly unfeminist of me, but she is rub. And Billy was as rubbish as ever. They continued to try to pretend the show made ANY SENSE AT ALL WITHOUT MATT, and I had to torture myself thinking how great all of the scenes would have been with him in them. I mean - imagine Matt trying to resucitate Caleb in Learning to Crawl, while Lucas secretly works his magic to do it. Imagine Matt checking pregnant Gail and interacting with evil!Caleb. Imagine Matt looking after Lucas after he gets stabbed in the head.Imagine Lucas asking Matt to kiss his ring, and the fact that Matt would ACTUALLY DO IT, to save someone he loved, OMG!. But Matt was gone, and all the emotional payoff was lost, and - gah. I'm still angry at the show. Mostly I imagine Lucas is making various midnight visits to him in the asylum.
Anyway. They changed everything around so it looked like Lucas was good for the town, and it wouldn't really be able to function without him, which was odd, but perhaps only to be expected. "Moral ambiguities" and all that. Except that Merlyn didn't seem to think so, in the long run, which I suppose would have been the interesting thing about the continuing series - ordinary, slogging-it-out heroes versus an evil miracle man. It wasn't really made exactly clear. It also seemed like Caleb really had no choice about becoming "the next Buck" - it was going to happen when Lucas died whether he followed him or not ('heirs and spares aside'), and he was really better off letting Lucas teach him how to control it. Which was - odd. Again, could have been more interesting if there'd been another series or two. OR DOCTOR MATT WAS STILL AROUND. And it stands just sort of sad - like all the rooting for Caleb in the world isn't going to work. In a way, the best thing Gail could have done for Caleb was had Lucas' baby and let him have it, so Caleb wouldn't be involved anymore. But, it ended like it ended. It was sad to lose Merlyn - no more hooker!ghost - but I suppose it's not like we're going to have to watch another season without her.
Now I'm mostly imagining the odd post-series scenario where Lucas, Matt and Caleb live in a house in the woods with another baby of Gail and Lucas', Matt taking care of it mostly, while Selena comes to visit every now and then with ten demon "spares". Which would clearly win. You know Gary Cole also plays Mr Brady in the Brady Bunch Movie? No lie, yo.
And now. I need to pack.

- "War is hell" - eee, Caleb!
- "I can't be anymore alone than I already am" - oh, Caleb!
- "Was? I'm so sorry." - Selena, honey. Even rubbish, you still got it.
