Hello. I haven't been here for ages. I went to see [livejournal.com profile] jekesta, [livejournal.com profile] alicamel, [livejournal.com profile] nerdcakes and [livejournal.com profile] calapine for New Year's Eve and they kidnapped me they were difficult to leave. But I couldn't have had a better time if someone had taught me to dance, so it's really all fair.

The good stuff started on Saturday, when I changed at Manchester Oxford Road and - deciding to wander around in my 40 minute stayover instead of sitting on a bench - I found the Cornerhouse right outside, and a whole shop full of books about films. That was a grand suprise. And then there was the week at the house. We played Escape from Atlantis, and watched Guys and Dolls, and Bugsy Malone. We played Articulate ([livejournal.com profile] nerdcakes and I won - PANIC WAS OUR ALLY) and watched Grease (race him for pinks!). We watched American Gothic and the Persuaders (omg Danny Wilde) and Star Maidens - we learned to avoid jerks, that communists can be easily overcome with pep talks, and that EVERY PROBLEM CAN BE SOVED BY RUNNING. Also that sequins are for the win. We watched figure skating, even when they CHEATED. They watched Emmerdale with me. REPEATEDLY. Old and new. I might have kept [livejournal.com profile] nerdcakes up while explaining Matt/Carl very badly. And they watched Brick with me, and Russell Brand, and introduced me to Marilyn Monroe and Jane Russell, and I might have forgotten to get up some days and helped eat all their chocolate, but oh, they are great, they are GREAT, and I sort of want to go back right now. Their house has a map of their flist on the wall and pictures of great people everywhere. I FANGIRL THEM ALL SLIGHTLY. There were too many catchphrases to count - "And then she cries" might be my current favourite, but no-one can judge me. I have an odd urge to watch Torchwood, for my sins. THEY MADE ME LOVE MANY THINGS, but naturally I am now going to be calm, and rational, and look for a job and a flat in Nottingham. At least until I go to [livejournal.com profile] ironicdutchess's next week. Squee!

And then today I finally managed to get up in time for the Lancaster-Leeds train with no changes, and it turned out to be on the Settle-Carlisle line. Which is gorgeous, and goes through some fantastic countryside, and I highly recommend - if you're ever going to Lancaster from Leeds on the train. I wasn't always sure I was going to Leeds, but I'm pretty sure we went along the coast, and I saw what looked a like a kestrel, and what looked like a yak, and stations with names like 'Giggleknees'. And I ended up in Leeds a mere two hours later! And am come here now.

Naturally we watched the Green Wing special. Well, it ended as I initially feared, with the pairing I hate. And I found most of it - underwhelming, to go with that. But canon has no new suprises to spring on us, besides deleted scenes (will be checking them out, and reporting, tomorrow morning), so it was all left pretty open, so it's okay. I imagine Alan and Joanna will be as rubbish at killing themselves as they were at not killing other people, and if Caroline falls to her death and Mac turns out to have been given the wrong diagnosis it's all up to us. Anyway. [livejournal.com profile] nerdcakes and I whinged ourselves out mostly last night.

They seemed to be pretending Guy didn't have feelings again, despite him - having DONE the right thing at the end of series 2, remember, he said she should marry Mac and she realised he was actually a good choice? But there were some lovely moments with him ("Don't look into his eyes!"), and with him and Mac ("Fuck! What are you dying of?"), and they were clearly about to have angry hatesex over who should marry Caroline ("What about you?" made me eeee), and really, pretty much every bit with Guy in it was good. And they didn't marry him off to Sue White, as I half-expected, which was - because I don't SEE it myself, it would have felt like he was a loose end being tied up. So I was glad that didn't happen. And he wore a kilt, which was special. And I loved the office girls going feral, and it's nice that Harriet got to be on top at last even if they didn't get her back together with Lyndon SINCE HER HUSBAND LEFT HER ANYWAY. And it was lovely that Alan met someone who seemed to like him, even just for a brief while, and then he sang to Boyce and it was good. And Joanna was beautiful all the way through. And Sue sucked on a gun. And all these parts were good even if the whole thing felt a bit weird and odd and unsatisfying. So hurrah!

But I'm not looking forward to meeting any "Caromac" shippers at the convention next week.

And I didn't do any '2006 in retrospect' or 'this year in fic' (sparse) posts, and I haven't finished reading Yuletide even, or done my 'Big Reveal' (I wrote Underbelly, Neverwhere), but I did have a really good time in Lancaster, and I don't regret it. Even when we turned a weekend into a looong weekend. So hurray :)

EVERY PROBLEM CAN BE SOVED BY RUNNING.

TRUE!

And Brick! Yes. I knew I'd forgotten something. POSSIBLY TELLY OVERDOSE. But that was very good and I should really get it because it is clearly love and I love hard-boiled detectivey things and I do have love The Pin more than reaonsable, yes.

:) I mostly love Tug and Brendan, but the Pin is still fantastic. He wants to go live in a Tolkien book. It's a fantastic film, one of the best of 2006, I think. If you really want it it's £6.99 in the Virgin sale or £9.99 on play.com at the moment.

I think that 'jerks' is TOTALLY MY FAVOURITE TAG EVER. Also I think that you are BRILLIANCE, OH YES. And I think that the Office Girls are the best thing ever. Well, either them or Dorothy and Lorelei.

*gloves liek omg*

I LOVE YOU OMG. AND THE JERKS. If only Dorothy and Lorelei had a gang of jerks they would have NEVER HAD TO WORRY ABOUT ANYTHING AGAIN. The office girls, on the other hand, were clearly self-sufficient. KAREN COULD APPARENTLY CUT THROUGH A WRIST.

AND THEN SHE CRIES.

OH MY GOD, GIRLOFPREY. OH MY GOD.

If I weren't such a jerk I would respond to this by CUTTING THROUGH A WRIST.
