OH MY GOD I LOVE JACK DRSCOLL. OH MY GOD.

I love the fact that, despite the fact that Jack's dad is dead, they are still making sure that Jack/Gerry is one of the main focuses and still pretty much a viable ship on the show. Oh God. The finale was kind of weird in some ways, having Jack show proper emotion was sort of not the Jack Driscoll I know and love, but sort of appropriate for the circumstances and probably necessary if they want Single-Handed to be an ongoing series. I mean, I love him being a sort of terminator, but being an actual human (at least some of the time) is probably going to give them a bit more to do, character-wise.

I'm pretty sure no-one is watching Single-Handed, but still. There were things I was expecting that did happen, I never really properly expected Jack to lose his job or for Finnbar to become the proper sergeant, and I sort of expected him to go after Moraid (?) even without being a garda, because that's just who he is. But other things sort of came out of the blue, like Jack's girlfriend deciding to go early on, and then eventually deciding to stay. I assumed it would be a whole 'they try to stay together, but eventually she sacrifices their relationship to get the guy to drop the charges and so Jack can keep his job, but must CARRY ON ALONE' type of thing. And I like that they didn't do that, apart from anything the fact that I imagined it would happen means it's sort of predictable. And then Moraid knowing something that would hurt Dennis whoever, so that Jack could have his job back. In some ways I am disappointed that Jack didn't use the information to get rid of Dennis, so the town wouldn't have to put up with him anymore, regardless of his own job. But I guess maybe it wouldn't have completely ruined him anyway, or he could have fought it, and Jack is a good Garda, and at least can stand in Dennis' way if he gets his job back. Hmm.

Anyway. I love Single-Handed quite a bit. It got a bit meta at the end there, describing the land/Ireland as 'bleak, but beautiful', but okay whatever. And I still love Jack's mum being kind of great and pragmatic, and kind of terrible and nowhere near as good as Jack. And Jack giving Brian the land at the end, OH. I love him.

However, a while back Jack's mum I think said that "family is best dealt with by family", so I still think the people of the town who have a problem with Jack should just raise his father from the dead, or summon his spirit and make him deal with Jack, so Jack has to face him again. Or, Jack's boyfriend/mentor from Dublin should come back. I was half-hoping he would after the introduction they gave him, for two episodes, and what with him having police contacts and a history with Jack similar to what was happening between Jack and Brian. But oh well. Perhaps they'll bring him back if there's a series 3.

I LOVE SINGLE-HANDED.
