  • I left Nottingham for a weekend at the beginning of the week. They appear to have constructed a GIANT WHEEL in the town centre in my absence. Which turns out to be a ferris wheel, now they're a bit further along with it, and has apparently come to us from Cardiff. It's for the Nottingham Light Night thing tomorrow, I think, which I might have a look around. Mostly it's just impressing me when I look at the town centre from any angle. I wish for the life of me I could remember what they called the Ferris Wheel in Carnivale. Something great, that's all I can recall.

  • I watched Blazing Saddles, and it was slightly the best thing I HAD EVER SEEN. OH I LOVE LILY VON SCHTUPP. AND THE WACO KID. OH GOD, CLEAVON LITTLE, OH GOD. A major failing of last night's Torchwood was that no-one told Gwen she was making a WELSH SPECTACLE of herself. Oh. A lot of the other dudes in it were very good also. It was a bit great.

  • I watched last night's Torchwood! Meat, spoilers for next weeks promo )

  • Also I saw Cloverfield. What's that coming over the hill? )

  • Simon Amstell seems to be putting a pen in his mouth on Never Mind the Buzzcocks a lot more recently. Possibly just to please me.

  • Also I saw Penelope. Oh God, Christina Ricci is so beautiful. Reese Witherspoon didn't do as much as I thought she was going to do. But James McAvoy was great. And the whole thing was quite great. Except for a lot of the British people mysteriously having American accents. Oh well. Hurrah.

  • People at the probation office still seem to think the most important thing they should tell me is who they're meant to be seeing. And seem really quite reluctant to give me their names. As if I'm just going to call the probation officer and say "Someone's here to see you. They're asking for you. COME QUICK". Not so much, people.

  • I am reading posts and stuff. You might not be able to tell from the RADIO SILENCE.

  • I'm still quite in love with the Johanna Reprise from Sweeney Todd. It's here. Only slightly because of the "Smoke, smoke! Sign of the devil, sign of the devil!" bit in the middle. I think I may have a parenthood kink. Not in an incestuous way. Sometimes in an incestuous way. It occurs to me that I never did do that kinks list, did I. Hmm.

  • Are there are any more beautiful three words in the world than Final Clearance Sale? Suddenly all the most colourful, cheapest tat in the world can be yours!

  • I have a new neighbour. She came to the door yesterday to ask when the bins are taken out and which days the binmen come, and already I think I've exchanged more words with her than I ever did with my previous neighbour. She seemed quite suprised and bewildered by the lack of a washer and dryer, but also seems like the kind of person who will take in her own mail. And she changed the lightbulb in the hallway. I think this will go quite well.

  • Really the best part about the time after Christmas is clearance Christmas chocolate. I'm aware that the bags of Thorntons mishapes aren't really particularly cheap at £1.99, but still I get to have 200g of broken chocolate figures to snack on. Mmm, Santa's leg...

  • Today there was actual sunshine, that I saw and walked in. And when I finished work there was a bit of blue in the sky. It was like some kind of magic. I CALL IT THE MAGIC OF SUN.

  • Stephen Mangan has been given his own show on Thursday nights and is on TV again. This is very good. He is QUITE BEAUTIFUL. ALL THE TIME. He's a recovering alcoholic who isn't terribly impressed with his AA group, or life without alcohol. Mostly he accidentally seduces people and has to go hide upstairs when it all goes wrong. And wears jackets. OH. IT'S GREAT.

  • La Senza did not have underwear in the size I wanted. Wilkinsons do not have a hand towel in the colour I want. A pox on them.

  • There is a Cross-Gen/Incest Porn Battle here that includes prompts for Veronica Mars but not any for Aaron/Logan. What the hell, mostly?

  • Never Mind the Buzzcocks is still very good. Am I wrong in thinking that the singer guy tonight looked a bit Sylar-ish? Like if Sylar suddenly decided he wanted to be in a British semi-famous indie band? Can anyone who watched it remember the second intro he and Phil did though? I remember knowing it, but can't remember what it was (hmph).

Restored saved draft entitled: Some work ranting )

That was as far as I got on Thursday before I just ran out of time. But it turned out not to matter because my job finished yesterday. I've got a new one on Monday with the probation office. Which should be fun. They tried to pretend there was absolutely nothing strange about my position finishing, despite them having essentially promised me it until Christmas and having just taken on another new temp. But as I say, the work we were doing was finishing and J(2) had had the five-minute training for the next bit of work we were meant to be doing, which I guess not all of use needed to do. There's still every chance that they let me go because I was the slowest of the temps, but if so they kept the one that was lying on his timesheet, so hah. Anyway. New job on Monday. Which I can apparently walk to. This is only annoying because the agency apparently didn't tell them about the time I'd booked off over Christmas, so I'm going to have to organise it with the new company now, if they'll let me. Or there's the possibility that they'll shut down over Christmas, and I'll be out of more work. I'll have to find out on Monday.

Anyway. After attempting that post TV happened )

Last night, after getting my notice handed to me, I went to see the launch of an exhibition of K's, which was somewhere way out of the city and down a slightly scary dark street, but it turned out to be lovely. Basically she'd been selling off little spaces in a room in an art studio for artists to buy and fill any way they liked, and it was just like being in a miniature gallery. And some of the pieces were lovely. Occasionally I think I'm just impressed by bright colours, but some of it really was very good, though obviously too expensive to ever own. And there was an interactive work on the floor where you could rearrange houses on a white square into whatever design you liked. I wish I'd had my camera. And that it worked. That went on till nine, and there wasn't much food, but, y'know, there were mini mince pies. And after that, K and I ended up going to an 11 o'clock showing of Mr Magorium's Wonder Emporium. Which was great. Spoilers )

Today was a bit mad, and annoying, and COLD ALL THE TIME COLD, but at least I got all my Christmas shopping done. Except that I would like to get something extra for my nephew. The new baby's coming in January, and he's attention-seeking at the best of times, so I wouldn't mind spoiling him a bit. But for the most part I'm done. Now it's about 11 o'clock and I'm going to try to put up my Christmas decorations, a week after my parents brought them. Rah.

ETA: Oh, also - I heard Livejournal was sold to a Russian company quite randomly last week. Do we know anything about them? Are they as bad as Six Apart? What?
