Hello. Livejournal is a little tricky lately, between my going to college and looking after my nephews one and a half days of the week, as well as trying to do anything else, as well as my basic lack of energy to do anything and my general doubt about being able to express anything I want to say. But. Every now and then I get some time.
Things:
So yes. Dental work, political thoughts (sort of), and soap news. That's basically the update you were expecting from me, wasn't it? IT'S THE ONE YOU GOT, ANYWAY.
Things:
- I am on my period. Which is kind of a relief, because I can't remember when I had my last one. I either forgot or decided not to keep a note of it in my diary for whatever reason, but it was definitely before Devon. However, at the moment my womb is mostly reminding me why I don't really like to have periods all the time. Ouch.
- I had sort of my first dental work ever on Wednesday. Apart from the braces I had for a few months when I was in highschool. I hadn't had a dentist appointment in about two and a half years, and with my anxiety and OCD-ishness I had spent quite a bit of that time skipping brushing my teeth as often as I should (yes, I know), so I was kind of expecting the news to be bad when I got my first appointment with a new dentist here in my hometown. And it wasn't good. The dentist used the word 'destruction' a lot. And made me an appointment for some work, and it said on the form they gave me that that would be four fillings. I was kind of dreading it because I've never had a filling before, but when I got there on the day, he said he wouldn't be doing any drilling - what he meant was putting some filler on/in my affected teeth to stop them being worn away anymore and keep them from being as sensitive. Which was much better. It was all done in about an hour, and he even said to the dental nurse(?) while I was there - in between saying 'you see what acid can do to teeth? Look!' - that it was all acid damage, and I had good dental hygiene, and there was no decay. So score. I've had the stuff in for a few days now, and it makes my mouth feel a bit weird and like I can't clench my teeth properly, and have the back ones connect completely. But I can eat properly and it doesn't hurt and it's not as bad as it could have been. So hurrah!
- Fiver are showing old episodes of Two Guys And A Girl on afternoons, the last couple of seasons where Ashley was in them, but they are showing the same ones on repeat for a week at a time AND TAKING FOREVER to get to the ones where Pete and Ashley start to get closer then get together, OH MY GOD. Pete/Ashley was one of my big het ships when I was young, and I think one of the first that I shipped and then they actually got together onscreen. ALSO PETE/ASHLEY WAS AMAZING. I WANT TO SEE IT AGAIN. FIVER!
- I also saw some snooker today. I got up late, came downstairs and switched the TV on, and there was a Stephen Hendry/Ronnie O'Sullivan match, at (0) 0 - 0 (0). It seemed difficult to pass up. Mostly I was impressed with Stephen Hendry's eyes (AND HIS SNOOKER SKILLS, OF COURSE HIS SNOOKER SKILLS, DUDES), and the fact that Ronnie looked incredibly happy every time he missed anything. As if inside he was going 'I might LOSE to STEPHEN HENDRY!!!!!! :D:D:D:D:D'. Then he came out after winning and was all 'I have played Jimmy White and Stephen Hendry, THE TOURNAMENT IS BASICALLY OVER FOR ME!!' Oh Ronnie. He's kind of mad.
- I also saw that Labour Leadership Question Time the other week where Ed Milliband publically declared his love for David Milliband, and then the rest of the panel fought over who he really meant. And when David Dimbleby had to plead with Diane Abbot to 'give him a chance', about someone else she wasn't impressed with. Mostly I decided they all seemed a bit more level-headed and serious than various papers and news articles would have me believe, and that I sort of liked all of them except David Milliband, who seemed incapable of answering a question he'd actually been asked, but especially Diane Abbot and the man with the red tie. But I also decided they were politicians doing very public political debates while vying for a position of leadership, so it was probably best to not trust what they were saying too much. With regards to my favourite I am a bit 'whatever', but it seems like it might be a bit of a mistake to have David Milliband leading them.
- Also,
hestia8 WROTE ME EMMERDALE FIC! NATHAN/DECLAN EMMERDALE FIC! NATHAN/DECLAN EMMERDALE FIC EXISTS BECAUSE OF
hestia8! Almost every day since then the internet has been a LITTLE BIT DISAPPOINTING.
- Also I saw The Other Guys. OH MY GOD I LOVE THE OTHER GUYS. I LOVE TERRY HOITZ. AND ALLEN GAMBLE. AND OH. It is by no means a brilliant film, and I am aware that I have slightly more of a fondness for Will Ferrell films than many people I know. BUT OH MY GOD. It is one of the few films this year that I have loved enough to want to spontaneously go see again, rather than going mostly to check something I didn't catch the first time. By which I mean, I saw it last Saturday, and then on Monday I saw it again. Although in fairness, I did kind of want to check something, because Terry starts out by saying quite a lot of sexist insults along the lines of how Allen isn't a proper cop because he's too 'feminine', and I wanted to see if the film agreed with him, because I couldn't remember seeing any female cops/detectives in the backgrounds of the scenes. And it turned out I was totally wrong, there were tons! Uniform female police officers, what appeared to be female detectives, and what appeared to be some female admin ladies. They weren't speaking parts, but they were totally there. So hurrah. And oh. Danson and Highsmith were not good cops. Terry learned to dance sarcastically. ROGER WESTLEY LOVES KYLIE MINOGUE. And I love that Eva Mendes got to be funny. I love that women quite often get to be funny, in a similar way to the male characters, in Will Ferrell films. And oh. I LOVE TERRY HOITZ. AND MARK WAHLBERG. AND THE OTHER GUYS.
- Connotations is VERY SOON, dudes! Sadly not soon enough that I have nothing else to do before then - unfortunately I have another Jobcentre appointment the Wednesday before, which do tend to be pretty undemanding, but which I often stress about anyway. But still, VERY SOON. I have a plan - my plan is to have watched at least the end of Season 3 of The Office, since I started watching it and I OWN IT, and all of Trinity, SINCE I OWN IT, before I go. We'll see how that goes. I guess.
- And I have things to say about soaps, Nathan's sister Maisie decided she thought he'd killed their dad and framed their half-brother Ryan for it, and he'd done the second one but not the first, and he was torn between being furious that she'd think he could do that and freaking out that his family might break up despite his best efforts to COVER UP MURDERS and keep them together and stuff. And then Declan, his mum's boyfriend, decided to keep quiet about knowing what Maisie thought and the things she knew that made her suspicious that her mum and brother were involved in covering up the murder, trying to get Nathan's mum Natasha to confess to him that Nathan had killed his dad, but then he decided to just drop the act and confront Nathan with it, and he decided to try doing it 'civilised, over a drink', while Nathan was giving him his best beautiful, evil 'fuck off' smile, and then he accused Nathan of killing his dad, and Nathan asked who he thought he was, that he just knew everything about their family because he was sleeping with Nathan's mum (which is a bit of a fair point), and then got upset and said Declan had no idea what he'd done for his family, and then tried to hit Declan, but because Nathan is awful at hitting people Declan dodged and then hit him instead. And took it as PROOF that when Nathan didn't get what he wanted, he got nasty, and therefore HAD CLEARLY MURDERED HIS DAD. And then there was this amazing scene of them sat on opposite couches, Nathan bleeding from the eye, staring at each other, and Nathan saying 'You think you have all the answers. The fact is, you have no idea', and Declan was all 'So enlighten me'. And then Natasha came in, and saw that Nathan had a cut eye, and they told her they'd been fighting, and Nathan was shouting that he was just trying to protect her, which is a bit weird and controlling, but Nathan kind of is a bunch of the time and is quite crazy a lot, and Natasha shouted at him to leave, and then Declan was just telling her that he knew what had happened, and she had to be strong and just break away from Nathan, and he didn't deserve her protection, and if the situation was reversed and she'd killed her husband Nathan wouldn't lift a finger to help her, and it was just AWFUL, AWFUL, AWFUL. And um, yes.
And then, Declan broke up with Natasha, because she couldn't be honest and trust him, and Nathan and Natasha both wanted him out of the business, and they offered him more than a fair price for his share, but he decided he wanted to stay around to hurt them both, and because he thought very soon things would catch up with them both, and Nathan would be in prison and Natasha would be quickly going to live abroad maybe, and he could buy their share and have the whole business to himself. So now he is just hanging around in their house, kind of being a dick, while Nathan tries to drive him away by hanging out in his office playing computer games and chatting on the phone to business contacts and not taking messages. It's kind of brilliant, for now. And when Declan was telling Nathan and Natasha that he wasn't leaving, he said to her that it was 'not because of you', and then looked at Nathan and said 'And Nathan, I don't think I'd ever get tired of walking away from you'. I CHOSE TO TAKE IT UNHEALTHILY AND SLASHILY. AND I DON'T EVEN CARE.
And I have things to say about Emmerdale that are spoilers, and things to say about Coronation Street that are spoilers (a thing that isn't a spoiler - Maria came back, some months ago, and the first shot we had of her was her standing outside the burnt out factory where Tony died, staring up at it. And then Audrey was supposed to be going away to Greece with her new boyfriend, and Maria was at the party, and we cut to her and David standing together, and David holding her baby, Liam, and carrying him around the place and being lovely, and people saying 'Dude, I thought you didn't like 'rug rats'', and he was like 'Well, he's not a rug rat, is he', and I love that David and Maria are kind of friends, I love the AU I dreamed up where Tony was evil but Maria knew and didn't care, or Tony was sort of a gangster and Maria knew and didn't care, and David worked for him, and they were liked a weird little family that lived on the street and people were a bit afraid of, OH I LOVE TONY AND DAVID AND MARIA).
But perhaps the most exciting news, or the news that I am most excited about, is. Right. I used to watch Hollyoaks. A lot. I haven't really lately, but back when I did one of the few characters I loved was Ste. Ste was difficult, because he was a bit of a teenage criminal, and he ended up living with his teenage girlfriend and her daughter, and for a while was physically abusing her. But they also gave him an alcoholic mother who made it pretty clear that she didn't care about him, a stepdad who beat him, and no real father to speak of - and he did sort of come to realise that smacking his girlfriend around was bad somewhat on his own, and try to sort himself out and have anger management counselling, and try to just generally be better and make a better life for himself when he found out said girlfriend was pregnant with his baby. And then his ex-girlfriend gave birth, and had post-natal depression and left, so he became basically a single father to his baby. And then a couple who pretended to support struggling single parents but actually sabotaged them to the point where the parents felt like they couldn't cope, and gave their baby to this couple who then sold them to people who desperately wanted to adopt - in true Hollyoaks fashion - befriended Ste, and sabotaged him and drugged him and stuff, until he was about to give his kid away, but then he found out what they were really like and they got arrested, but then the woman convinced him that she really loved him and his son Lucas, because her own baby had died and she'd decided she wanted Ste's son to make up for losing him, and Ste was about to run away with her, but then realised again that she only wanted him for his baby, and didn't go off with her. But then because he'd almost given his baby away or let other people take care of his baby who were psychos, twice, he ended up giving his baby to his girlfriend's father to look after, because he didn't feel much like a fit parent, and LIFE WAS VERY HARD FOR STE.
But like I say, I haven't watched it for a bit. I saw his actor on Dancing on Ice last year and I loved him. But I have just discovered, from my soap mags, that there is a new plotline coming up, where Ste and the violent gangster who runs the bar where he works and who he keeps having run-ins with find that they're quite attracted to each other, and end up having a 'violent gay affair'. I'M NOT SURE THERE ARE THREE MORE BEAUTIFUL WORDS IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE. To catch up, I have been watching all the previous episodes on 4od that have Ste and Brendan (the gangster) in them, and dudes. I had seen a post about Hollyoaks before hearing about the plotline where people were saying 'Is Brendan going to turn out to be gay? Whenever he threatens Ste it seems more like he's coming onto him', and other people were saying 'Gay? Of course he isn't gay!'. I HAVE NO IDEA HOW THOSE PEOPLE THOUGHT HE MIGHT NOT BE GAY. ALL HE EVER DOES IS STAND CLOSE TO STE AND CATCH STE TRYING TO CATCH HIM OUT AT DRUG-DEALING, AND TALK ABOUT HOW HE'LL PROBABLY TOTALLY HURT STE FOR DOING IT. EVENTUALLY. Brendan is kind of amazing, he's Irish and he doesn't seem to think there's any situation that elaborate hand gestures and standing too close to people won't fix. While also being quite sinister.
So yes. I QUITE WANT TO WATCH THIS STORYLINE. A LOT. OH STE. I can't quite believe I might be getting into Hollyoaks again. It takes me back to the days when I andtiniago and...other people...who totally existed...used to like it. Um. Oh.
So yes. Dental work, political thoughts (sort of), and soap news. That's basically the update you were expecting from me, wasn't it? IT'S THE ONE YOU GOT, ANYWAY.

Date: 2010-09-25 03:26 am (UTC)I LOVE PETE/ASHLEY SO MUCH. OH. I was going to say that I just love Pete. But then I had to add 'and Sharon. And Johnny. AND ASHLEY AND BERG, OBV. AND MAJOR WINCHESTER WHEN HE USED TO BE IN IT.' I love Two Guys and a Girl QUITE A LOT.
OH MY GOD, I am not at all jealous of your dentistry. I have never had a dentist use the word 'destruction' at me before. I HOPE I NEVER DO, JUDGING BY YOUR STORY.

Date: 2010-09-25 05:46 pm (UTC)OH GOD PETE/ASHLEY. I LOVE PETE. AND ASHLEY. AND BERG AND SHARON AND JOHNNY AND IRENE. It's nice that it was a sort of stereotypical show, but I think they got the 'big romances' of the main characters really quite right, you know? At the moment Ashley is not going out with Berg anymore, and Pete is not with his fireman girlfriend, and Sharon and Johnny are married and Berg and Irene are together, and Pete and Ashley are just wandering around being sort of 'spare' ones and insulting each other and then occasionally having proper heart-to-hearts and getting through to each other about stuff, AND IT IS AMAZING, OH PETE AND ASHLEY.
It wasn't so bad! Um, sort of! I didn't have to have any fillings, just stuff in my teeth. And I have to cut down on fizzy drinks and fruit juices, and have them alongside food more. I have bought curly straws to drink them with. Which is one of the more pleasing aspects of it all.

Date: 2010-09-25 11:51 am (UTC)Hurrah for getting through your dental work, which I think sounds impressively minor for your first ever bit of dental work. I hope your teeth feel less weird soon.

Date: 2010-09-25 05:51 pm (UTC)Yes, it was a lot less horrible than I thought it would be. And I'm a lot more used to them than I was at first. And trying to take slightly better care of my teeth! Hurrah.

Ohh, it was that episode I was talking about when you posted that first fic, and I was all 'DID YOU WATCH IT??', and you hadn't, and I really didn't want to spoiler you even by saying IT WAS AMAZING. And then I didn't know if you'd watched it and weren't as FLOORED by it as I was. But dude. WATCH IT. IT WAS AMAZING.
