Sort of spoilers for tonight's Coronation Street )

I did manage to see some of Emmerdale tonight though. So, Declan's just a dick, isn't he? I can't tell if he's gotten worse since Nathan left, or was just always like that. And Mia thinks that her relationship with Adam should be more important to him than the fact she helped her dad try to evict his family. Okay. There's hardly anyone I really like on Emmerdale anymore, except Carl and Val. And it's just difficult to like Carl at the moment. And I don't even know what is happening with Cain and Amy. He doesn't know who she is or how old she is despite the fact they've been living in the same small village for a few months now, and she was working with his dad at one point? Hmph, Emmerdale.

Anyway. In other news, music I have learned I loved lately. Mostly it's You Think You're Cooler Than Me by Mike Posner. I heard it first in a garden and home centre on Monday, I think. I thought it was by Mika on hearing it, and I was so convinced about it that when I came home and looked it up and heard it on Youtube, I assumed Mike Posner did the original, or an earlier version, and it was actually a song from the 90s or 80s or something. But anyway. No. It's totally a new song, and I quite love it. It's funny actually, because I was thinking pretty hard about Blake/Jayden from Heavy Rain at the time, and it in some ways fits their relationship quite well. There are even a pair of high-tech glasses that Jayden wears to help him solve cases, which will probably make more sense if you've heard the song. But mostly I think it's probably Ryan Howard's theme song. Or everyone who knows Ryan Howards' theme song.

Otherwise, I finally listened to 19 by Adele, which I bought about a year ago, ahead of/around the same time I ordered her new album. It turns out it's really good, as I thought it probably would be. I really like Adele.

And speaking of Welsh people, it turns out the Newport State Of Mind vid from Red Nose Day is up on Youtube. Complete with Michael Sheen. Hurrah!

In other news, what the hell is happening with The Event? I knew it had come back, I saw it on the TV communities and stuff, but I don't know what my dad's download limit is like in terms of entire episodes of stuff, and I knew it would be coming back to Channel 4 at some point. So I waited, assuming I would hear about it, or that it would be back in it's old slot at 9 o'clock on a Friday. I'd heard something about it coming back on March 28th, and I looked out for it around then. But I heard nothing. Then a week or so ago I noticed in a TV guide an episode on one night at about 10.50 or 11.50, which I assumed was a repeat, but which didn't have the (rpt) symbol in the blurb. I forgot it was on and missed it anyway. Then I checked the Channel 4 website to see what they said, to find out they totally had started screening the second half of the season, and they had some episodes on the 4 on demand service that had already been on, but when I checked an episode guide it seemed that I'd still missed out on a few episodes before that. So what the hell? I'll probably have to man up and just download it. If my dad has enough downloading limit, obviously. But I really thought they might have MENTIONED it was back on somewhere. Man.

So. On the advice of my flist, I have now downloaded AVG free antivirus protection for my virus protection needs. Although Norton will probably still make me pay to renew it somehow in May, but I shall have to deal with that when I get to it. And actually, I was going to get Avast, on the reasoning that one of my friends (as far as I knew at the time) was actually using it and having no problems with it so it was probably fine, but I told my dad about it and he found some review that said that AVG was the best free one, and I think it upsets/irritates him that I take the advice of my internet friends probably more than I take his, so I ended up getting AVG. But anyway. I have downloaded it and been on the internet with it and nothing has exploded so far. And I'm even getting those nice little page status reports that Norton used to give me to tell me if a page was safe or was probably FILLED WITH VIRUSES, so that's nice. And essentially, I'm back on the internet in my room again. Hurrah!

In other news, Family drama )

So yes. A fun day. I've got a Jobcentre appointment tomorrow, and an appointment with my Back To Work service thing again in Wakefield in the afternoon. When I may or may not be going to Pinderfields with my mum to see my grandma and staying on afterwards to go to my appointment, but she doesn't know for sure yet if she's going, and she doesn't really want to drive and park so we might be going on the bus, and blah blah blah. We'll see.

In other news:

  • I have pretty much totally finished Black And White 2. I used a cunning mix of expanding, building impressive buildings, and throwing a hurricane at the Aztecs. I had a feeling it would make their city less impressive and mine more impressive in comparison. It totally did. So yes, I've finished that. All I have to do left now is to charge up my volcano miracle and set it off and set off my hurricane miracle one more time, because I really never got to see the effects of that enough.

  • Given how often I fall in love with jewellery and how much time I spend whining that I can't afford anymore, it's probably a bad idea for me to look at designer jewellery websites. But that hasn't stopped me doing it anyway. Mostly I love the Turandot pendants on that first page, and the XIV collection on the second. Which are pretty much equally as expensive (as far as I can tell).

  • Other things I have finished recently: Season 3 of the US Office, although it was an episode I'd seen before. Vague spoilers for the finale of Season 3 of the US Office ).

And I both started and finished No Heroics, which I was mostly interested in because of a) Nicholas Burns, and b) rubbish superheroes. My thoughts for the whole series )

  • Last Thursday my mum had the radio on on Sky while she was tidying, and while it was on I heard Nick Lowe's Cruel To Be Kind for the first time. Which is, for me, one of those songs that when you hear it you can't believe you didn't hear it years before. I kind of love it.

I have been watching more of Season 3 of The Office, having seen a Pam/Ryan fic on the current porn battle, and then a few episodes on Comedy Central HD. Spoilers sort of )

I have come back from my weekend in London with [livejournal.com profile] cakesy. Over the weekend, I:

  • Went to see Love and War by the Mark Bruce Company, which I loved, with K. It was a little bit nerve racking at first because K and I didn't really agree on a place to meet up, specifically, we just said at King's Cross at about 6.30. Then she called me at 6.25 when I was on a train, just about to pull in, to say her phone was really low on battery, but that she was there, and she said she'd wait at the tube station, opposite where the ticket-buying place was. It turns out there's quite a few tube station entrances near to where you can buy tickets. And her phone was off when I tried to call again. I basically couldn't find her, and ended up having to go to the theatre to pick up our tickets, and I didn't know exactly where the theatre was, just that it was close by. It ended up being easy to find, thankfully, but K wasn't there, and she didn't turn up while I was waiting for her outside. Eventually I went inside, and the show was a bit delayed, and as I was sat there waiting for it to begin K suddenly walked over and asked for her ticket so she could give it to the nice ticketman who'd let her come in to find me. She'd been considering giving up, but then just went to an internet cafe, found out where the theatre was and come to find me. It turned out she didn't know there was a ticket buying place in King's Cross King's Cross, and had been waiting at the one in St Pancras. But anyway. She made it, and we had a great time, and the show was good, yay!

  • I had found out just before I came to London that Luke Rattigan was in a play, over the weekend, in London. And it was basically right next to where me and [livejournal.com profile] cakesy were already going to see a comedy show later that night. And she is kind and said yes, of course we can go, Rachael. So we went to see Luke Rattigan in a play. And it was very good, and he was good, and it was about gay people and gay rights in the last few decades, and when he was in the audience pretending to be a protester at an anti-gay show thing, he made out with another actor about two rows down from me. It was quite good. And the play was good. And he was good.

  • And then later on that night, as I said, we went to a comedy thing, which [livejournal.com profile] cakesy had agreed to, once again, because it was Tom Stade, and he was on in London the weekend I was in London, and I kind of love him. And he was great, and he didn't tell any jokes playing on the word 'faggot', hurrah, and he kept picking on a guy in the front row who he informed us all was called 'Heroin Jim'. Oh the things he and Heroin Jim had been up to. He was brilliant. I love him. Except for that one joke. And THEN a man came on doing comedy and magic tricks, and THEN Paul Sinha came on, and he was pretty funny too. Hurrah.

And in between all of that, [livejournal.com profile] cakesy and I watched Blades of Glory, and about 2 and a third seasons of The Office (US). Ryan is my favourite, he is young and smart and kind of amoral, but also I love Dwight, and I love Toby, and I love Oscar, and I love Angela, and I love Phyllis, and I love Stanley, and I love Pam sometimes, and I love Michael sometimes. AND OH. Pam was in Blades of Glory too, it turned out. That was quite suprising and special. Hurrah. So all in all, I had a good weekend.

Things I have decided there should be:

  • A website place, sort of like imdb, where you can check to find out if actors you like are on stage any time soon. Finding out just afterwards, sometimes, is not really good enough in my opinion.

  • A Disney kink meme. I cannot be the only one who thinks this, right? I mean, I probably could be, but I would prefer not to be. DISNEY KINK. COME ON.

  • Office AUs. The ones I came up with so far are:
    • Desert island

    • Michael is a pimp and the rest of the office are his hos.

    • Crime syndicate
And probably a bunch of others I can't remember now.

And, Coronation Street tonight )

Hello. It's me. A few weeks ago I decided, since my computer didn't seem to be having the disk space issues it had been doing and I had a new external hard drive to clear space with anyway, to see if I could install an old game of mine, Morrowind, again. It turned out that I could, aside from some problems with the computer not recognising the game disk some of the time. But anyway, I've mostly been playing that rather than posting for the past few weeks. God I love Morrowind. I'm not exactly a big gamer, but it's probably my favourite game I ever had. And one of my favourite fantasy stories ever. But anyway.

I have been doing stuff though. I went to see the Snow Queen in London a few weeks ago, and stayed the weekend with [livejournal.com profile] cakesy. The Snow Queen, and staying with cakesy )

I also had two interviews. The interviews )

The flat things )

Anyway. In other news:

  • While I was at my parents' I picked up a belated Christmas present that wasn't delivered in time in December, the Wolf Almanac. And promptly spent most of my time at my parents' reading about wolves. I would be tormenting you all with Wolf Facts and discussing Erroneous Assumptions About Wolves somewhat endlessly, but I'm mostly a better friend than that.

  • I saw a part of an episode of Veronica Mars while I was at my parents', and am currently going through one of my regular bouts of rage about the lack of Aaron/Logan on the internet. Dudes. It was incestuous, abusive, AND Aaron was a Spoiler for season 1 ). How could it not have taken off??

  • I saw a beautiful hat in the sale in Accessorise last week, on the very day that I really properly did not have enough money to buy it with. It was a black trilby with two of those scrunched-up felt flowers attached to the side, a pink one and a grey one. It was beautiful, sort of Gangster-Feminine, but the next day, when I had slightly more money, it had gone. At the moment I'm vaguely planning to make one. If I can find the right bits in a haberdasher's.

Another thing I've been thinking - while I do feel like any money I get from now on should really at least partly go towards paying back what I've borrowed from my savings to pay for my rent and stuff lately - on the other hand, when I get the £200-ish deposit back from my flat (assuming I do move out at the end of February and they don't feel the need to buy new furnishing with it or keep it for some reason), it would probably pay pretty much for me to go to Eastercon. Assuming there are still places and I can find someone to share with. Hmm. It's a thought, anyway.
